A chat with Jo Pavey

I spoke to Jo Pavey earlier this month, just as she was about to take to the streets of Glasgow for the Great Scottish Run. She was clearly delighted to be back in the city where she had surprised so many with the 2014 Commonwealth Games performance which laid the foundation for her remarkable win in the European Championships. She was all too happy to also recall the ‘surreal’ moment of coming back to Glasgow for the Sports Personality of the Year award last December and coming third.

There’s little else on her mind now, though, than her attempts to qualify for next year’s Olympics in Rio. As she admits herself, she thought she’d be retired by now so she’s making the most of what feels like a second chance…
