With a new year usually comes new aspirations and the setting of fresh goals. When it comes to hitting your targets, there’s no doubt that preparation and planning are always key, whether you are looking to complete your first give 5km or – if you are like 800m runner Lynsey Sharp or swimmer Ross Murdoch – have an Olympic final in mind.
These two impressive athletes have plenty to ponder as Rio 2016 veers rapidly into view. I interviewed them both recently about what will be driving their pursuit of a spot on Team GB this year and they both revealed very different, equally intriguing, motivations as they begin their preparations in earnest.
One thing is for certain, neither of these Scots who made such an impact at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow can ever be accused of not giving their all.
